you fail to mention any historical reasons why the Saints use this logo,or even why the name/emblem should tie the team to the city or its inhabitants.
Good point and one I must admit I didn't know the answer to. A quick Wikipedia search shows that Southampton FC originally started out as "St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C" which was later shortened to "Southampton St Mary's" so my guess is the nickname came from there.
Recently received a Graham Bleathman hand drawn trading card of The Saint logo on a trading card. A gift from the wife she purchased from e-bay from GB. Framed and on my office wall next to the picture of my wife and I standing by the New Scotland Yard sign taken last year in London. What can I say.
Just had to mention this...I was at a Mets ballgame last night with the wife.{P.G. Wodehouse's beloved team}. Between innings among the contests and announcer patter they tend to play some music. Along came the 7th inning stretch and after take me out to the ballgame a tune some of us remember. Yes the saint theme from the 1997 movie. Some fans and ballplayers believe it brings the Mets luck in the later innings playing that song. Just thought I would stop by and mention it.
