Simon Dutton as The Saint on DVD

The Saint, starring Simon Dutton is finally coming to DVD. The 1989 Saint series has never been available on DVD before, and Unbrella will be publishing all six episodes in Region 2 format.
THE SAINT - WITH SIMON DUTTON
1989 TV
566 Mins - TBC
RRP: AUS $39.99

Suave, chivalrous & Utterly Heroic!

In 1989 the cult British spy series, The Saint, was again welcomed back to TV in six feature-length episodes staring Simon Dutton as Simon Templar-aka The Saint. In a role immortalised by Roger Moore in the 60s, Dutton plays the suave, debonair super sleuth who is adored by women, feared by his adversaries and remains a constant thorn in the side of police forces everywhere.

An Australian/British co-production from 1989, this was the final remake of the cult British spy series originally starring Roger Moore - Ian Ogilvy starred in the 70s vehicle, The Return of the Saint. The entire series on 3 Discs - six, 2 hour movie versions of the hugely popular British TV series

This is great news! I always thought this was very underrated series.

I have searched in vain for years for the theme music on CD/MP3 - does anyone have it?

Would I be right in saying this series was pulled from ITV after only one or two shows so remains unseen in the UK?

The series was shown in its entirety a few years ago on one of the UK cable channels (Granada Plus or UK Gold) at least once or twice. I can remember taping them.

I have an MP3 of the theme tune but it's taken from an off-air recording so is listenable but not brilliant. Personally I'd be patient and wait for the DVDs...

Originally the series was to be run on six consecutive Saturday nights in the UK but ITV pulled it after two episodes had aired, and transmitted the other four the following summer...

Too bad that this release unlike its previous releases from the same source is a R4 instead the usual R0.

However it is about time to see them again. I remember my mother taping them for me while I was away at college and we watched them together. Like when RoTS was on the telly.

great memories.

Mark, if you remember, it wasn't long after the Return of the Saint DVDs were first released in Australia that they were subsequently released here in Europe. It may be the same situation with these R4 discs; an R2 release may well be in the pipeline.

It's funny how TV series can time-stamp a certain time in your life. I was in my final year at college and had to beg, my elder brother to tape the films for me.

But after each film had aired I would rush to the phone and discover what leslie Charteris thought of each one. Some of those comments, minus the expletives, may well find their way into my Saint on TV book.

There are currently no plans for an R2 release of these films.

Well I for one am looking forward to that elusive book.

Still very pleased that I ordered the R4 set. Thanks for regionfree players.

Elusive?

It's not elusive, it's sitting right here on my hard disk!

I'm over 100k words in and still haven't got to the really good stuff!

I am looking forward to the release of this book that still lacks the good stuff.

Have you got a publishing date?
