How About Dougray Scott as The Saint?

Will James Nesbitt, Robson Green, Dougray Scott, or Eddie Izzard play the role of Simon Templar on the new TV show of The Saint?

Will there even be a new TV show of The Saint, as we have been hearing about for more than a year now?

Will the new series be filmed in Detroit or Canada?

Burl Barer's Amazon blog and the official website of Leslie Charteris are both hinting that the long-awaited new TV show of The Saint might be announced soon. Various other information has been posted to IMDB. Further Google searches find even more rumors on Commander Bond. Even Roger Moore himself is saying that a new show is close to being sealed, and will start filming in Canada.

What does this all mean? Stay tuned.

Dear The Saint Blog:
Can you use your considerable influence to contact whomever (British company that released it?) to release "The Return of the Saint" starring Iano Ogilvy, on DVD - the complete series in NTSC format for viewing in the US. Right now the series exists on DVD but only in PAL format, viewable in the UK. The release of this DVD set (great as the holiday season approaches) will do much to stimulate interest in the new Saint TV show.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steve Carol
Prof. of History (retired)

When (if) a new TV series comes out, I absolutely assure you that various DVD sets will come out of the woodwork. Therefore, we need to put our collective weight behind getting this series aloft!

Dan's correct. The new TV show will drive the release of DVDs, sadly not vice versa...

Well it about time "The Saint" come back. I was very dissappoint with James Purefoy not playing the role & the series didn't go through. I've got all the collection of "The Saint" with all the actors From Roger Moore to Simon Dutton. I hope either Dougray Scott or any other actor to play Simon Templer. Has Clive Owens been approte?

At last another chance at the brass ring. Clive Owen would be good Mr. Izzard HHHMMMM. Can't quite visualize that presently. Let's push onward this time might be the charm.

Dougray Scott would most certainly not be one my first hundred choices.

James Purefoy would have been a brilliant choice but sadly he declined for a flawed series that could indeed have been much more.

To bad he could not be motivated to rethink his position especially now that the Saint has returned to a more traditional script without any international agency.

I look forward in a curious manner and hope it won't turn out like that mess in That was the Saint with a moustache and a countach, both most unSaintly.

It seems like everyone is weighing in on the potential new Simon Templar. As a teacher I know it's not a very good research source but Wikipedia says the latest actor to play The Saint will be: James Nesbitt. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Templar. This information is at the end of section 4 "The Saint on film and TV." I know in the world of TV, film and basically all media creating a "buzz" prior to the launch of something new or updated is very important. I think the producers and directors have learned a lesson from the James Bond film series. Weeks and months of speculation over the identity of the new lead actor certainly creates a "buzz" and it doesn't cost them anything. In this business you either come up with an idea yourself or you're smart enough to "borrow" an idea from the best --- either way, GENIUS.

You really really shouldn't believe everything you read in Wikipedia

Yea, that's what I tell my students but like a train wreck sometimes you just feel compelled to look. Actually, based on everything I've read to this point I'd guess that in about a week Dougray Scott will be announced as the next actor to play Simon Templar.

I guess the bigger point of my post yesterday is that the weeks and months of speculation over the identity of the next actor to play Simon Templar has started a "buzz" among fans and the producers haven't had to pay a dime for advertising, which is a good thing. Even non-Saint sites like IMDB, CommanderBond.net, and Wikipedia have mentions about the upcoming release of a new TV pilot.

This is a smart move by the producers because the free publicity has helped spread the word that a new version of "The Saint" is in pre-production. Given the fan "buzz," even if you don't like the actor the producers choose you're still likely to tune in on the day the pilot movie airs which helps increase the ratings and the chance the show will be picked up in a network's regular schedule.

As a fan, I hope the pilot movie is well done but still basically faithful to the original novels. Once the pilot airs we can all hope the series is picked up for a long run on one of the networks.
